Ever played those newspaper puzzles? Yes. Yes. I used to do it when I was in school, bored by what the teacher was saying… or simply a fun activity that I’d engage in with my friends. It’s a habit of mine that has carried over even now – though I barely have time to indulge in it anymore.


 

It looked stupid. She certainly felt it, pacing the corridor, eyes glaring vengefully at thin air. Yet she didn’t care how mad she looked – she faced a worse fate. This was her honour, her pride at stake.

The gears in her brain worked slowly, reluctantly, rusty from disuse, but she would not be deterred, forcing it through sheer will. Painfully, it went click-click-click until something finally churned out, the answer clattering through her mind as realization hit her.

With a triumphant cry, she pulled out the tattered, folded newspaper and scrawled the final answer to the nine-word Target Puzzle: superglue.
