Title: Roads Less Travelled
Source: 100 Words Prompt #346 – Velvet Verbosity
Airport departures were always the hardest for me to get over, moreso when it’s someone you grew up with, wrestled with, pulled his hair, fought over a teddy bear for… you understand the idea. Some part of me hopes he’ll adapt, but the realistic part knows it’ll take longer than a week and some kind words to heal the gap and the discomfort of being home away.
Trailblazers. Roads less travelled. All of them evoked an image of an adventurer, hacking through the wilderness with a machete – figuratively, literally – to forge a new path for others to follow, or to pave an smoother path of stones and cobbles instead of mud, sand and water. The romantic myth was there. Children grew up hearing how brave, how triumphant these people were.
Yet, everyone glossed over the agony, the anguish, relegating it to a mere footnote in the great story. Standing in the airport, watching them leave to an uncertain path, it was never felt more keenly than now.
